Swiss Muons for Europe
General:
PSI is a member of the Integrated Infrastructure Initiative for Neutron Scattering and
Muon Spectroscopy (NMI3)
within the activity 'Structuring the European Research Area: Research Infrastructures' of the
6th Framework Programme for Research, Technological Development
and Demonstration (FP6) of the European Commission.
This programme allows us
to support selected users of the SµS from EU member countries and associated
states (except Switzerland) by reimbursing their travel and accomodation expenses.
Eligibility:
A necessary condition for being eligible for support is that the proposal originates from a
EU member country or an associated state, i.e. the main proposer
(spokesperson) or the majority of co-proposers must be affiliated to an institute or company
located in one of these countries
(see list of eligible countries below). Please note that it is the
affiliation of the main proposers but not their nationality
that matters. Please also note that, since according to EU rules users from the host country
are not eligible, Swiss users cannot be supported.
How to apply for support:
Research groups asking for beam time for µSR experiments which meet the above eligibility
criteria may apply for support within the PSI µSR Access Contract for European Researchers
for collaborators who are affiliated to an institute in one of the
eligible countries (see list below).
Please attach the application to your beam time request
(see proposal submission) and send it to
the PSI User Office.
Applications for access support should contain the following information:
- Name of the Contact Person
- RA-number (if known) and short title of your proposal
- Name(s) and affiliation(s) of the person(s) you ask support for
(please note that in general, only one person can be supported per proposal)
- The deadline for applications is the same as for
proposal submission
- Please note that funding is only granted for one round of cyclotron production at a
time, so if your project extends over several rounds you'll have to re-apply for each new round
Criteria for funding:
As all µSR proposals, those eligible for access support are peer-reviewed by the
PSI µSR Research Committee. The main criterion
for funding is scientific quality of the project, followed by the aim of supporting young
scientists, new µSR users and projects from countries without a national muon source.
Report Duties for Supported Projects:
Users whose experiments have been supported within the NMI3 access program have to provide some
information after performing the experiment. This is necessary for us to fulfill our reporting
duties against the European Commission. So please do the following:
Please note: the reports and acknowledgements requested from users supported within the
access program do not replace correct acknowledgement of the SµS and PSI.
If you have any further question please don't hesitate to contact the
PSI User Office.
